First, the funny part:
Now the other part:
Yesterday’s item about “sack tapping” aroused the attention of men’s rights activist Chris Key. His website, Men’s Rights Online, is devoted to issues like child custody, sexism, and yes, testicular abuse. Men have many rights — but judging by Mr. Key’s site, men do not have the right to decent web design. But I digress.
Please take a moment to read Mr. Key’s comment on my post; he does a good job of detailing the dangers of testicle injuries.
Agreed, getting hit down there can result in serious health consequences and it’s not funny. Yet groin kicks, punches, and blows have always been a staple of lowbrow comedy. As I pointed out to Mr. Key, it’s usually men who laugh the most at this stuff. Now some more funny stuff:
A remarkably exhaustive list of groin hits in pop culture may be found at the website TVTropes.org. This is the sort of thing the internet does best.
Look, it’s not my fault that people find testicle busting humorous. But in the interest of being a part of the solution, not part of the problem, tell your sons that it may be funny on TV, but it’s a bad thing in real life.
