Sunday Dinner

To me, spending the afternoon in the kitchen is not work. I don’t really cook anything fancy, but passing the hours preparing a meal, having a beer or two, and listening to the radio, is my idea of a good time.

Like a lot of things we do for fun, you probably wouldn’t want to do it for a living. Toiling in a professional kitchen is serious work, no matter how glamorous they make it look on TV.

On the menu Sunday? Roasted chicken with pancetta and olives, pan roasted asparagus, and mushroom risotto. And just for the record, I clean as I go.

  1. Substitute “glass of red wine” for “beer” and I’m right there with you, 100% . . . especially on clean as you go. I’m obsessive about that. I probably shouldn’t admit this, but I generally prefer washing my own dishes anyway, since no one else does it as well as I do (not because they can’t, but because they don’t care as much as I do . . . I’m phobic about getting any soap residue taste in anything I make). I use the Sunday afternoon rite not only to make a meal that day, but also to stock up for the week . . . made a killer saffron and wine basted chicken last weekend, along with some steamed shrimp (THAT’S where the beer goes), and a nice big tuna steak, that got seared and seasoned, and will go great on salad or over pasta sometime later this week.

    1. Sounds great. I too, am a master pot and dish cleaner. Plus, nobody else knows how to load the dishwasher.

    1. I’m lovin’ having my own WordPress installation. It was very limiting before I discovered the world of plug-ins.

  2. That mushroom risotto looks like it was worth the work. I don’t have the patience by the time Sunday afternoon rolls around. Good for you!
